The Scriptures speak to the importance of gathering together in groups for the sake of spiritual growth (Matthew 18:20; Hebrews 10:25). Washington Bible College/Capital Bible Seminary expects that each student will actively engage in a community of believers for the sake of the kingdom of God and their own spiritual growth.

There are three major ways in which Student Life and Development incorporates these gatherings into students' lives, including involvement in the local church, chapel, and small groups.

SmallGroups and Forums are designed to be practical for students. Today's culture isvery relational, and as a result, students learn and incorporate more of theirbeliefs into everyday life when they interact with each other. Forums and SmallGroups will be established by professors, student leaders, and invited guestsand will deal with theological and biblical topics and offer opportunities toworship God through song, prayer, and Scripture reading. These groups will meet throughout the semester.

TheOffice of Student Life and Development encourages and, whenever possible, facilitates prayer groups. Such groups have been initiated by RAs, residentstudents, and commuter students. Groups meet to pray for certain topics (suchas a morning prayer group committed to praying for China), or may pick acertain time to pray for various topics or one another. The Office of Student Life and Development offers support (such as assisting with finding a location) and networking (connecting students with similar interests).  A Prayer Barn on Campus provides students with a quiet atmosphere to focus on prayer atany time throughout the day.

While students are at Washington Bible College/Capital Bible Seminary, they are receiving a wealth of information. However, it is important for students to not only learn this information, but also to put it into practice. Recognizing the limitations of a primarily academic setting, faculty and staff seek to instill within the student a deep love for God and His Word, a heart for evangelism and missions, and the integration of biblical teaching and values into every aspect of life. The writer of Hebrews encouraged the readers not to neglect meeting together as a church (Heb 10:25).? Choice of a church is left to the student's discretion. Students are required to be involved in a body of Christ outside of the College and Seminary in an effort to put into practice what they are being taught and to prepare for future ministry.

In order to ensure that each student is participating/serving in a local church: (1) Students can register for Field Education, and thereby document their own paricipation and/or involvement in ministry to the body of Christ.?(2) If students are not registered for a Field Education credit, each student must indicate their intention of regularly participating in a local body of Christ over the course of a semester.

The purpose of chapel is to provide a meeting centered on the Bible and focused on today’s issues, uniting passion with scholarship. It reflects the multicultural aspect of worship within our community.

Chapel meets on the Lanham campus at the posted times throughout the semester. There are three allotted times for chapel -- Morning chapel begins at 10:45 a.m., afternoon chapels begin at 2:45 p.m.,  and evening chapel begins at 6:45 p.m.. Students are expected to attend if they have class before, during, or after chapel.

Chapel Excuse Information—Work conflicts (including student teaching) will be the only excused absences. Students must fill out a Chapel Excuse Form and have it approved by the Student Life and Development Department at the beginning of each semester. Chapel excuses do not include sickness or doctor appointments.
