PSY 211 Introduction to Psychology (3) Fall
An introduction to the various schools, research, methodology, and principles of psychology. Special attention is given to the integration of psychological principles within the context of a biblical framework.
PSY 224 Child Psychology (3) Spring
Prerequisite: PSY 211 Introduction to Psychology
A comprehensive developmental study of children from conception to the adolescent period. An emphasis will be given to the physical, intellectual, emotional, behavioral, spiritual, and social development of children.
PSY 226 Human Growth and Development (3) Spring
Prerequisite: PSY 211 Introduction to Psychology
An overview of the major theories, concepts, issues, and research concerning the developmental processes of the individual from birth to adulthood, with major emphasis on child development.
PSY 321 Educational Psychology (3) Fall
Prerequisites: PSY 226 Human Growth and Development or PSY 224 Child Psychology.
A study of the teaching-learning process focusing on intellectual growth and development and the factors that enhance or retard that development. Emphasis is given to the various learning theories.
PSY 322 Abnormal Psychology (3) Spring
Prerequisite: PSY 211 Introduction to Psychology
A study of human psychological/emotional abnormalities. Current concepts of mental illness will be evaluated and students will seek to draw conclusions on how abnormality is best understood, described, and treated. Various theories will be examined in light of biblical truth.
PSY 331 Adolescent Psychology (3) Fall
Prerequisite: PSY 211 Introduction to Psychology
A study of the psychological nature and needs of youth from the preteen years through college age with emphasis on a knowledge of the intellectual, emotional, social, and physical development of the adolescent.
PSY 421 Adult Psychology and Gerontology (3) Fall
Prerequisite: PSY 211 Introduction to Psychology
A study of adulthood, including young, middle, and older adulthood. Theories of aging are discussed with a special emphasis on counseling and ministry interventions. Suffering, grief, and death are explored.
