Physical Education Courses
PED 111 Weight Training (1) Fall
This course is designed to help the student begin and maintain a weight-training program. The focus will be on muscle tone and increasing strength.
PED 112 Self Defense/Jujitsu (1) Fall/Spring
This course begins with the basics of Jujitsu, enabling the student to understand basic techniques of self defense for personal protection. Students need no prior training in martial arts in order to participate. The course may be repeated allowing students to move up the scale of belts (white, yellow, green, etc.).
PED 113 Racquetball (1) Fall
This course is designed to teach the rules and fundamentals of racquetball. Students will be challenged to incorporate these activities as part of a lifetime physical fitness program.
PED 114 Tennis/Badminton (1) Spring
This course is designed to teach the rules and fundamentals of tennis and badminton. Students will be challenged to incorporate these activities as part of a lifetime physical fitness program. Classes will meet indoors and outdoors giving students the opportunity to develop skills in both places.
PED 115 First Aid & CPR (1) Spring
Prepares the student with a basic knowledge and certification in First Aid and Adult CPR. Additional course work can be used to provide the student with the training to apply course material on infants and children. Course work leads to certification by American Red Cross in Workplace Safety.
PED 118 Essentials of Rock Climbing ( 1)
An introduction to the basic skills, techniques, equipment, and safety practice used in the sport of rock climbing and rappelling. The class will provide the student with the principles and methods necessary to climb top rope, multi-pitch, and sport walls.
PED 121 Aerobics (1)
This course is designed to help the student begin and maintain a regular cardiovascular fitness program. The focus will be on oxygen-uptake and endurance activities.
PED 122 Personal Fitness (1) Fall
A course designed to introduce students to techniques of exercise that will equip them to develop personal fitness plans that can be useful throughout their lives.
PED 211 Advanced Weight Training (1) Spring
An individually planned course to meet the additional training needs of students who have already been involved in a weight-training program.
PED 212 Advanced First Aid and Athletic Injuries (1)
Prerequisite: PED 115 First Aid and CPR
This course will cover the initial treatment and care of injuries, focusing primarily on injuries suffered by athletes. Additional emphasis will be placed upon taping, bracing and rehabilitative measures.
PED 221 Survival Skills and Adventure Living (1)
Prepares the student to face emergency and difficult circumstances by teaching skills in shelter and food/water preparation, self-defense, etc. Students purchase and create first aid/survival kit for course. Designed for students who will potentially be ministering in third world countries.

PED 201 Men’s Soccer (1) Fall
Daily practice begins in late August, and regularly scheduled games are played through September and October.
PED 202 Women’s Soccer (1) Fall
Daily practice begins in late August, and regularly scheduled games are played through September and October.
PED 203 Men’s Basketball (1) Spring
Daily practice begins in early October, and regularly scheduled games are played from November through February.
PED 204 Women’s Basketball (1) Spring
Daily practice begins in mid-October, and regularly scheduled games are played from November through February.
PED 205 Men’s Volleyball (1) Fall
Daily practice begins in late August, and regularly scheduled matches are played through September and October.
PED 206 Women’s Volleyball (1) Fall
Daily practice begins in late August, and regularly scheduled matches are played through September and October.
PED 207 Men’s Baseball (1) Spring
Daily practice begins in early February, and regularly scheduled games are played from early March to early May.
PED 208 Women’s Softball (1) Spring
Practice begins in early March, and regularly scheduled games are played in March and April.
PED 210 Cheerleading (1) Spring
Practice begins in early fall. The squad cheers through the basketball season.
