MAT 031 Basic Mathematics I (3) Fall
A survey of the basic arithmetic functions focusing on whole numbers, fractions, decimals, square roots, and percents. Placement is by testing. This course prepares students for college level math and does not meet the math requirement of any degree.
MAT 032 Basic Mathematics II (3) Spring
Prerequisite: MAT 031 or placement by test
A review of geometric and algebraic functions including integers, equations, and inequalities, polynomials, algebraic functions, graphing and radicals, and quadratic expressions. This course prepares students for college level math and does not meet the math requirement of any degree.
MAT 223 Introduction to Statistics (3) Fall
Prerequisite: MAT 032 or placement by test
A study of quantitative research methods and criteria for evaluation. Among the topics covered are correlation, regression, sampling, and hypothesis testing. This course is required all Educational Ministries and Counseling/Psychology students in order to prepare for graduate programs in education and counseling. It does not, however, meet math requirements for students working toward teacher certification.
MAT 231 Math for the Liberal Arts (3) Spring
Prerequisite: MAT 032 or placement by test
Course is designed to be a capstone of a liberal arts program. Students will learn how mathematics fits in the overall scheme of human knowledge, how it developed, and how it is used today. Through a survey of major topics in mathematics and some practice of mathematical skills through problem-solving exercises, students will be encouraged to develop their numerical reasoning skills for the furtherance of God’s kingdom
