HB 701 Hebrew Readings (3)
Prerequisite: HB 602
Readings in Hebrew prose with a review of Hebrew grammar and syntax.

HB 702 Hebrew Exegetical Principles (3)
Prerequisite: HB 701, RS 601
Readings in Hebrew prose and poetry with an introduction to basic Hebrew exegetical principles. A research paper is required.

HB 711 Rapid Hebrew Reading (2)
Prerequisite: HB 602
Selected portions of the Old Testament are read with an emphasis on increasing the student's proficiency in reading from the Hebrew Bible.

HB 712 Hebrew Readings in Genesis (3)
Prerequisite: HB 602
Translation and limited exegesis of texts in the book of Genesis.

HB 713 Exegesis of Ecclesiastes (3)
Prerequisite: HB 602
Translation and exegesis of this book from the Hebrew text, with some attention given to historical backgrounds, linguistic and interpretational problems, and contemporary application.

HB 714 Exgesis in Isaiah (3)
Prerequisite: HB 602
An exegesis of selected portions of this key Old Testament book, with special emphasis on the New Testament and eschatological fulfillment.

HB 715 Exegesis in Jeremiah (3)
Prerequisite: HB 602
An exegesis of selected portions of this important seventh-century B.C. prophet. The historical background, the prophet's message for his people, its New Testament and eschatological fulfillment, and its relevance for today are considered.

HB 716 Exegesis of Micah (3)
Prerequisite: HB 602
A translation and exegetical study of this book, wih an emphasis on its contemporary message.

HB 717 Exegesis of Zechariah (3)
Prerequisite: HB 602
Translation and exegesis of the book of Zechariah, with special attention to its message and cultural setting.

HB 718 Exegesis of Proverbs (3)
Prerequisite: HB 602
A translation and exegetical study of Proverbs, with an emphasis on its contemporary message.

HB 719 Exegesis in the Minor Prophets (3)
Prerequisite: HB 602
A translation and limited exegetical study of selections in the Minor Prophets.

HB 720 Introduction to the Dead Sea Scrolls (3)
A basic introduction to the Dead Sea Scrolls, including the archaeological background, a survey of the major biblical and sectarian texts, and their relevance to biblical studies.

HB 721 Exegesis of Psalms (3)
Prerequisite: HB 602
A translation and exegetical study of selected portions of the Psalms.

HB 722 Hebrew Poetry (3)
Prerequisite: HB 602
A translation and exegetical study of various types of Hebrew poetry to give students a basic familiarity of the genre.

HB 801 Hebrew Messianic Exegesis (3)
Prerequisite: HB 602
An exegesis of crucial Messianic passages in their historical setting and in light of their fufillment in the person of Christ.

HB 802 Aramaic Grammar and Readings (3)
Prerequisite: HB 602
The basics of Aramaic grammar are covered with special emphasis on biblical Aramaic. Aramaic passages in the Old Testament are translated and discussed.

HB 803 Introduction to Ugaritic (3)
Prerequisite: HB 602
A survey of the archaeology of Ras Shamra and a study of the Ugaritic language and literature, with an emphasis on their contributions to Hebrew and Old Testament studies.

HB 804 The Use of the Old Testament in the New Testament (3)
Prerequisite: GK 602 and HB 702
A textual, exegetical, hermeneutical, and theological study of selected Old Testament passages quoted in the New Testament.

HB 805 Introduction to Akkadian (2)
Prerequisite: HB 602
A study of Akkadian language and literature, with an emphasis on its contribution to understanding biblical Hebrew and the Old Testament. The student will begin to learn the cuneiform writing system, vocabulary, grammar, and syntax of Akkadian and the influence of Akkadian on biblical Hebrew. The student will also be exposed to various kinds of Akkadian texts such as contracts, letters, omens, and the "Laws of Hammurapi," and will begin to be able to read important Akkadian inscriptions for Old Testament studies.
